Greyhounds acquire Campbell from Spitfires

******************** Soo Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Dubas announced this afternoon the team has acquired 19-year-old goaltender Jack Campbell from the Windsor Spitfires.

"Today we completed a very significant trade which our entire staff has put a tremendous amount of research and thought into,” began GM Kyle Dubas.

“We compete in a division of very tough opponents. Our goal here is to accomplish sustained success, year in and year out. With that said we feel adding a player of Jack's calibre to our lineup shows our players and our fans that we will do everything we can to reach the level we all feel our franchise is capable of reaching.”

In exchange, Windsor receives players Mackenzie Braid and Patrick Sieloff along with six draft choices: Kingston’s 3rd in 2012, Windsor’s 2nd in 2013, Erie’s 3rd in 2013, Owen Sound’s 2nd in 2014, Saginaw’s 2nd in 2014, Sault Ste. Marie’s 2nd in 2015 and Sault Ste. Marie’s 15th in 2016 (conditional).

Campbell, a native of Port Huron, Michigan, is currently in his second season in the Ontario Hockey League.

Selected by the Dallas Stars in the 1st round of the 2010 NHL entry draft, Campbell is one of the most decorated players in his career with the United States Development Program (USDP) winning gold medal on three separate occasions; 2008 World Under 18 Championship, 2009 World Under 18 Championship and 2010 World Junior Hockey Championship (U20).

“Jack is a young man of exceptional talent and more importantly he has tremendous focus and dedication to fulfilling his tremendous potential,” continued Dubas.

“As we move forward, a goaltending tandem of Matt Murray and Jack Campbell gives us the best chance for our club to reach our potential as a group.”

Campbell is expected to join the Hounds later this week while they take part in an Eastern Conference roadswing.

2010:

- Participated in the USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp, posting a 3-0-0-0 record with a 3.21 GAA and .881 save percentage in four games against teams from Finland, Sweden and the U.S.

- Member of the U.S. Men’s National Under-18 Team that captured its second consecutive gold medal at the 2010 IIHF World Men’s U18 Championship in Minsk and Bobruisk, Belarus

- Along with teammate Jason Zucker, became the first American man to have earned three gold medals at IIHF events

- Allowed just five goals in 359:39 of action

- Earned the directorate award as the tournament’s best goaltender, to go along with media all-star honors

- Became Team USA’s all-time leader in each statistical category for goaltenders at the IIHF World Men’s U18 Championship with nine wins, 0.80 goals-against average, .966 save percentage and five shutouts

- Skated with the U.S. National Under-18 Team at the 2010 Under-18 Six Nations Cup in Minsk, Belarus

- Member of the U.S. National Junior Team that captured the gold medal at the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship in Regina and Sasksatoon, Sask.

- Entered the gold-medal game against Canada midway through the second period, earning the 6-5 overtime win

- Set the NTDP’s single-season record for shutouts with six
