Northern Storm Swimmer Tyler Smith Breaks NEOR Record
This past weekend at the NEOR #I Developmental Meet in Sudbury, 12-year old Tyler Smith, from the Northern Storm Aquatic Club, shattered the Northeastern Ontario Regional record for the 50-meter breaststroke with a time of 35:96.
Tyler surpassed the original record of 37:99, belonging to Ted Postal of the Sudbury Laurentian Swim Club, by more than two seconds, and then he went on to capture first place finishes in the 50m Free, 100m Free, 50m Back, 50m Breast, 100m Breast, and 200m IM with personal best times in each.
Fellow teammate, 11-year old Spencer Bordin, capturing his very first Provincial time in the 100m Breast, also placed first in the 100m and 200m Breast, the 100m Fly, 100m Back, and 200m IM, achieving personal best times in each event.
Nine-year old Trinity Neshawabin, competing in the 10-and-under category, shattered all of her personal best times in all six of the events she entered, taking one first place finish in the 100m Free, three second place finishes in the 50m Free, 200m Free, and 100m Back, and two third place finishes in the 400m Free and 200m IM.
Mychael-Anne Francis, competing for the first time in the 12-year old category, had a second place finish in 200m IM, and two third place finishes in her 50m Free and 100m Fly.
Desmond Wood-Anderson, Christa Wright, and Kaytie Sillanpaa were successful in achieving all personal best times in all six of their events.
Parker Simpson, Kathleen Trussler, Reilan Dupuis, Colin Bovingdon and Kaleb Kee, all showed some awesome improvements in their technique in the water and had some great races and personal best times also.
Coach Nancy Day is very impressed with how all the young swimmers performed at the first meet of the season.
“We have really been focusing on the technical aspects of the sport and, combined with their training ethic, the results speak for themselves. Having a young group of swimmers makes it exciting for me as a coach, in anticipation of what the future may bring.”
