NEW YORK, Oct. 31 - On Sunday, November 5, thousands of athletes from the U.S. and around the world will lace up their runners for the 36th annual New York City Marathon.

Sportsbook.com, the world's largest online sportsbook and casino has released odds on the 2006 ING New York City marathon.

The current betting line lists an OVER/UNDER for Sunday's race at 2 hours 9 minutes 30 seconds - Paul Tergat's winning time last year. In 2005, in an epic finish, Tergat nosed out 2004 champion Hendrick Ramaala by three tenths of a second in what turned out to be the closest finish in the history of the event.

Both runners are registered to run this week, ensuring another exciting battle at the finish line in Central Park. The prestigious event features Olympic and world champion runners.

Celebrity runners among the pack include the ironman of the Alps, seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong.

The acclaimed road cyclist has been confirmed as a participant by race director Mary Wittenberg. Two million roadside spectators will line the streets of New York's five boroughs and 315 million television viewers are expected to follow the prestigious marathon.

The race attracts over 90,000 applicants, so a lottery system is put in place for 37,000 lucky athletes to compete for a prize pool of over $600,000.
