Knocking out the competition at the 3rd Annual King Of The Hill drag race event in North Bay, Ed Wellwood made his trek to the quarter finals on Sunday, and red lighted and taking himself out of the running for the semi-final round.

In addition there were six other drivers that made the five hour trip which included Doug Quinton, hot after a final round win in Elliot Lake in July 2004. Janice Atkins made her drag racing debut in her Valiant followed by her son Jamie, a two year veteran in the Pergatory Jester.

With a new war machine, Bill Yourchuk would prove to be a very well motivated racer in the Super Pro category while Eddie Fantasia only made one qualifying run on Saturday to find out that he had a broken lifter and could not continue for the rest of the weekend.

Moving on up to Semi Pro from Street was Morris Aubertin. There were a total of 100 entries in the Semi Pro division in which a few opted to graduate to and enjoy competing on both days of the weekend event.

In Street Class, the competitors were widdled down to a 32 car field at the end of Saturday's racing and then this field continued with their eliminations on Sunday shooting for the $1,000 purse.

Overall it was one hot weekend not only on the track but in the air with the sun and the temperatures staying in the high 20s.

The next drag event is in Elliot Lake on July 8, 9 & 10th and you can be sure that the Soo Crew will make an impressive showing there as always. Hopefully Espanola will have their permanent facility operational in 2006.
