Greyhounds overcome late goal in win (update)

There’s a sense of satisfaction for the Soo Greyhounds following the second game of its three game road trip on Saturday night.

There’s a sense of satisfaction for the Soo Greyhounds following the second game of its three game road trip on Saturday night.

After giving up the game-tying goal with 2:55 left in the third period, the Greyhounds would eventually use shootout goals by Blake Speers and Zach Senyshyn to pick up a 4-3 victory over the Owen Sound Attack.

“For a majority of the game, they outworked us,” said Greyhounds Coach Drew Bannister. “Certainly you’ve got to be happy with how we kept in the game and found a way to win.”

Goaltender Joseph Raaymakers stopped 38 shots in the game and two of three Owen Sound shooters in the shootout.

“Joseph was fantastic,” Bannister said. “Both goalies were actually lights out. The quality scoring chances that both goalies saved tonight made it an exciting hockey game.”

Bannister said that Raaymakers would likely get Sunday’s start in Hamilton.

“Right now I would say yes,” Bannister said when asked if the sophomore would start Sunday. “As long as he’s feeling well in the morning and rested, there’s a good chance he would be starting tomorrow.”

Bannister credited the Attack, who took a 2-1 lead after falling behind 1-0 in the opening minute of the contest.

“We came out and scored a goal early and thought it was going to be easy,” said Bannister. “Give credit to Owen Sound. For most of the game, they just outworked us but we still found a way to win.”

Senyshyn, scored a pair of goals in regulation time for the Greyhounds while Gabe Guertler added a goal and an assist. Defenceman Gustav Bouramman assisted on a pair of goals.

Petrus Palmu, who scored Owen Sound’s shootout goal, had a goal and an assist in the game while Jaden Lindo and Jonah Gadjovich also scored for the Attack.

Owen Sound goaltender Michael McNiven stopped 37 shots.

The Greyhounds wrap up the three-game trip on Sunday afternoon in Hamilton against the Bulldogs. Puck drop is set for 3 p.m.

Following the road trip finale, the Greyhounds return home to begin a three-game homestand on Wednesday night against the Flint Firebirds.
