Steelhawks continue run atop senior football

The Superior Heights Steelhawks remain unbeaten in senior high school football action after a 29-7 victory over the White Pines Wolverines on Thursday night at Superior Heights.

The Superior Heights Steelhawks remain unbeaten in senior high school football action after a 29-7 victory over the White Pines Wolverines on Thursday night at Superior Heights.

The Steelhawks opened up a 21-0 lead through two quarters en route to the victory.

Superior Heights Coach Seth Cond credited the Wolverines following the game.

“(White Pines) has gotten better every week and it might have been a case where we weren’t as mentally prepared as we needed to be,” said Cond.

Cond also spoke of the goal of getting some bench players onto the field during the game for experience.

“We did enough to win and it’s always the goal of any team,” Cond also said. “It was a goal of ours to get a lot of our reserves into the game and we did. To build the program we like to put younger athletes in those positions for the future and we did that today. But I’m not fully content with the product out there today.”

Connor Brechin caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from Jackson Zack-Coneybeare in the final seconds of the opening quarter to open the scoring for the Steelhawks while Cooper Lafromboise added a pair of touchdowns late in the second quarter.

Laframboise scored on touchdown runs of two and 17 yards.

Gary Gage completed the Steelhawks scoring with a one-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Tyler Bickell kicked four converts for Superior Heights and added a single point on a missed 29-yard field goal attempt.

Zack-Coneybeare took snaps as the Steelhawks starting quarterback in the game, filling in for regular starter Noah Grigg who missed the game due to injury.

Joe Trudeau scored the lone touchdown for White Pines on an eight-yard run in the third quarter.

The Steelhawks improve to 4-0 with the win. White Pines remains winless at 0-4.

Senior high school football action continues on Friday night when St. Mary's faces Korah in a 7 p.m. start at Rocky DiPietro Field.

The junior schedule also continues on Friday as St. Mary's faces Korah in a 4:30 p.m. kickoff at Superior Heights.
