It’s been a busy week for the Soo Thunderbirds as the team prepares for a home-and-home weekend Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League set with the Soo Eagles.
On Wednesday the team announced that defenceman Joe Newhouse has been dealt to the Superior League’s Thunder Bay North Stars,
In exchange, the Thunderbirds receive a player development fee for the blueliner, who joined the team prior to the start of the season as a free agent from the North Stars.
In seven games, Newhouse had a pair of assists with the Thunderbirds.
The move marked the second deal in as many days between the two teams.
On Tuesday, the Thunderbirds dealt rookie forward Brad Thrower to the North Stars, also in exchange for a player development fee.
In five games, Thrower had a pair of assists with the Thunderbirds.
The team also announced this week the re-acquisition of defenceman Andrew Barbeau from the Chatham Maroons.
After participating in the training camp of the Ontario Hockey League’s Erie Otters, Barbeau was dealt by the Thunderbirds to the Maroons before being reacquired on Monday.
The Thunderbirds return to action on Friday night on the road against the Soo Eagles before completing the weekend set the following night at the Essar Centre. Puck drop for both games is set for 7:30 p.m.
