It was a battle of unbeaten teams but it didn’t quite go the way you would expect.

The Korah Colts jumped out to a 17-4 first quarter lead and would cruise to a 45-19 victory over the St. Mary’s Knights at Korah in senior girls high school basketball on Wednesday.

“Both teams played last night and I think there was a little bit of lethargicness on both sides,” said Colts Coach Gary Cormier. “Our girls did a good job applying pressure in the first quarter. We shot the ball ok. Again, I think playing two nights back-to-back was tiring for both teams and it really showed.”

The Knights played the game with a short bench due to injuries

“Injuries happen and you’ve just got to play through it,” Knights Coach Dave Zagordo said. “We knew coming in that it was going to be a tough game. (Korah) plays well at home and they’re a good shooting team, as you witnessed tonight. They deserved to win.”

Zagordo credited the Colts outside shooting in the game, which saw Korah hit 10 three-pointers in the victory.

“Their three-point shooting was on fire,” Zagordo said. “I don’t know how many they hit but that was the difference in the game was their perimeter shooting. It was just unstoppable tonight.”

Tori Ivey had 18 points, which included six three-pointers, for Kora to lead all scorers in the game.

Carina Hargis added 12 points for Korah.

Taryn Lamorie and Megan Girardi had six points each for St. Mary’s.

Wednesday’s junior action saw Taylor Elliot score nine points as Korah beat St. Mary’s 39-25. Hanna Jodoin chipped in with eight points for the Colts while Emily Scarpino had 13 points for St. Mary’s.

On Tuesday night, St. Mary’s beat Superior Heights 25-13 while Korah beat White Pines 62-24.

Emma Filion had eight points while Hannah Soares added six points for St. Mary’s in its win over Superior Heights while Maggie Kirk and Kiara Hamilton had five points each for the Steelhawks.

In Korah’s victory over White Pines, Ivey led all scorers with 15 points for Korah while Riley Crockford had nine points for White Pines.

Tuesday’s junior action saw St. Mary’s beat Superior Heights 41-30 thanks to a 16-point performance from Scarpino. Emma Hendrie added 11 points for the Knights.

Tuesday’s other junior game saw Elliott score 16 points to lead Korah to a 62-10 victory over White Pines.
