Tight games continue to be the theme early on in the senior high school football season.

Thursday evening saw another one-possession game as Superior Heights beat Korah 35-28 at Superior Heights.

A three-touchdown performance by Max Fisher led the way to Superior Heights in the victory.

“Max is a horse for us and he ran really hard today,” said Superior Heights Coach Seth Cond. “That’s what we need from him. We chipped away at them and much like chopping down a tree, if you do it long enough, then it will go down. Max carried the load for us.”

Fisher ran the ball in for touchdowns of two, 35 and 86 yards in the contest.

“Max delivered for us at a timely point in the game,” Cond also said.

The opening two majors came just under two minutes apart in the second quarter to give the Steelhawks a 21-7 lead at the time.

Earl Gibbs opened the scoring in the contest, running a Korah punt back 105 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter.

Cam Elgie turned a pass from Noah Grigg into a 58-yard pass and run for the other Steelhawks major.

“That’s what we told our guys is that big plays would cost us this one,” said Korah Coach Tom Annett. “We made some adjustments at halftime and after those adjustments, I think we did a better job of controlling (the big plays).”

Defensively for the Steelhawks, Michael Reid had six tackles and eight assisted tackles while Justin Cond also had six solo tackles for Superior Heights.

Sam Ivey caught a pair of touchdown passes from Evan Bodnar. The duo connected for majors of 52 and 28 yards.

Ivey finished the day with 179 yards receiving on 10 catches.

Jarret Litalien caught seven passes for 87 yards which included a seven-yard touchdown pass from Bodnar.

Nick Nicoletta had the other Korah touchdown, running the ball in from six yards out.

“(Offensively) we executed really well,” Annett said. “We had no issues there. Evan (Bodnar) showed really showed he’s the top quarterback in the league today.”

Bodnar finished the day completing 14 of 32 passes for 248 yards, three touchdowns and a pair of interceptions.

Defensively for Korah, Nicoletta had eight solo tackles and five assisted tackles. Litalien had five solo tackles.

With the win, Superior Heights improves to 3-0 on the season while Korah drops to 1-2.
