The Soo Greyhounds roster is ready for the upcoming Ontario Hockey League regular season.

The roster was made official on Friday night following the annual Luke Williams Memorial (Red vs. White) game at the Essar Centre.

The team began the day with 38 players still in training camp after the re-assignment of three defencemen on Thursday evening. Defencemen Zach Taylor and Isaiah Payne, both selected by the Greyhounds in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection, and free agent defenceman Matt Murray were all re-assigned Thursday and 15 more players were released or re-assigned following Friday’s action.

Among Friday’s releases/re-assignments were goaltenders Dougie Newhouse (12th round, 2015) and Tyler Wall (seventh round, 2014); defencemen David Eccles, Nicolas Mainella (ninth round, 2014), and Ryan Da Silva (sixth round, 2014); and forwards Brady Cranwell (free agent), Alex Daigle (15th round, 2015), Brenden MacLaren (free agent), John Warren (free agent), Marshal Nikitin (free agent), Hayden Broomhead (free agent), Kyle Walker (free agent), Lucas Thorne (10th round, 2015) and Connor Rosaasen (free agent).

The Greyhounds roster includes:

Goaltenders (2): Brandon Halverson, Joseph Raaymakers

Defencemen (9): Tyler Hore, Colton White, Gustav Bouramman, Tyler Ganly, Medric Mercier, Mac Hollowell, Anthony DeMeo, Theo Calvas, Conor Timmins

Forwards (12): Blake Speers, Makar Tokarev, Tim Gettinger, Boris Katchouk, Jack Kopacka, Gabe Guertler, Keigan Goetz, Zach Senyshyn, Michael Bunting, Hayden Verbeek, Liam Hawel, Morgan Frost

In the game, Team White skated to a 5-2 victory over Team Red.

“It was a pretty good effort tonight,” Greyhounds Coach Drew Bannister said. “As the game went on the pace slowed down a little bit, which we kind of expected. All of them really haven’t played this much hockey for three or four months. Now (that training camp is done), the pace will pick up because the pressure is off and some of the players will feel more comfortable.”

Daigle had a goal and an assist for Team White while Guertler set up three goals. Cranwell, Mainella, Mercier and DeMeo also scored for Team White.

Halverson, who started in goal for Team White, left the game with 1:20 left in the opening period with a leg injury after Team Red forward Gettinger drove the net and collided with the veteran netminder. Though favouring his leg, Halverson skated off with no help before heading to the dressing room.

Bannister said the fact that Halverson was able to skate off under his own power was a positive sign.

“Guys that get up and skate off the ice the way he did, you kind of knew that it was just a contusion,” Bannister said.

Halverson made 13 saves on 14 shots before exiting the game. Newhouse made 24 saves the rest of the way.

Bunting scored both goals for Team Red. Raaymakers stopped 23 shots while Wall stopped 11 shots the rest of the way.

Team White scored three times on four shots to open the second period and break a 1-1 tie through the opening 20 minutes and tacked on an insurance goal on the power play late in the second period.

Next game action for the Greyhounds is a pair of exhibition games against the Saginaw Spirit beginning on Sept. 18 in Saginaw. The team teams then meet the following night in Sault Ste. Marie.
