Points races heating up at Laird Raceway

The race season at Laird International Raceway is nearing completion for another summer but the points races aren’t done by any means.

Thanks to a feature win, Rob Hiiemaa took over top spot in the Super Late Model Division over Keith King, who led Hiiemaa by two points heading into Thursday night’s action.

Dan Byrnes took second in the feature while Rod Bolduc finished third, keeping him in the race for the points title as he continues to battle Hiiemaa and King for top spot. Byrnes is also in the mix for the points title.

The four drivers entered Thursday’s action separated by just eight points atop the standings.

The Modified feature saw the top five finishers separated by just over two seconds with Dustin Jackson finishing first.

Kevin Oicle finished seconds while A.J. Daniel finished third, just over a second behind Jackson. Mav McDonald Jr. and Keith King rounded out the top five.

The Factory Stock Division saw Jarritt Varcoe take the feature win on the final lap after J.P. DelPaggio broke down while leading heading into turn three on the final lap. DelPaggio would finish tenth.

Keenan Spurway, who entered the night with a six-point lead over DelPaggio in the divisional points race, finished second in the Factory Stock feature. Mike Corbett finished third.

In the Factory Four feature, John Carter finished off the night edging out Jacob Heimonen to win while John Robinson finished third.

Racing continues on Aug. 20 with a full race program at Laird Raceway honours former driver Chris Jones, who died tragically in a work-related motor vehicle accident in June. Jones was a regular competitor at the track.
