The Soo Thunderbirds goaltending situation is beginning to shape up as they prepare for their annual tryout camp next weekend.

The Thunderbirds signed goaltender Brandon Gordon, a native of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.

Gordon spent the 2014-15 season with the Soo Indians AAA major midget team. He posted a 19-10-2 record and a 2.10 goals against average and 0.910 save percentage with the Indians.

The previous season, Gordon suited up for the Soo Thunder minor midget team.

“Brandon is a player who has a lot of upside and fits the mold of what we are looking for in a Soo Thunderbird,” General Manager Jamie Henderson said in a prepared statement. “He is a real character young man who is willing to work hard to earn the trust of the coaches and his teammates.”

Gordon becomes the third prospect to sign with the team after forward Brad Thrower and defenceman Matt Murray, who played a handful of Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League games as a callup last season, signed earlier this summer.

As the Thunderbirds prepare for their upcoming tryout camp, the team has limited roster spots available as the 2015-16 NOJHL season approaches.

The team currently has eight forwards, five defenceman and a goaltender signed heading into camp, which begins on Friday.

The Thunderbirds open the regular season on Sept. 11 when they host the Soo Eagles at the Essar Centre.
