Algoma men's basketball adds two

The Algoma University varsity men’s basketball has added a pair of players for the 2015-16 Ontario University Athletics season. The school has announced that Surrey, BC native Reng Gum and Kristjan Lamont from Winnipeg, Man.

The Algoma University varsity men’s basketball has added a pair of players for the 2015-16 Ontario University Athletics season.

The school has announced that Surrey, BC native Reng Gum and Kristjan Lamont from Winnipeg, Man.

Gum spent the 2014-15 season with the Douglas College Royals where he won a bronze medal at the Pacwest Men’s Basketball Provincial Championships. He had eight points in the game for the Royals.

Gum played his high school basketball for the Guilford Park Secondary Sabres.

Lamont joins Algoma after spending two seasons with the University of Manitoba from 2012 to 2014.

Prior to playing for Winnipeg, Lamont played high school basketball at Kelvin High School where he averaged 16 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and three blocks per game and he was named a Manitoba High Schools Athletic Associations graduating All-Star, a Provincial All-Star, and a 2nd Team All-Canadian in the 15U National Championships. He also represented the Manitoba provincial team from 2007-11 and coached the grade 9 boy's provincial finalists.

The Algoma men’s basketball team opens the 2015-16 season with a pair of games on the road against Lakehead University in Thunder Bay.

Algoma plays their first home games against Brock University and McMaster University on Nov. 6 and Nov. 7.
