SAULT UNITED SOCCER ACADEMY

SUFA soccer teams compete in "3 on 3" tournament in Grand Rapids; Senior players attending "Scholarship" camps.

Recently, the Sault United Academy sent two soccer teams to the 3-on-3 tournament in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

3-on-3 is played to develop skills and basic team play.

The Boys Under-8 team and Girls Under-9 teams played extremely well. Both teams had to play up two age groups with a minimum complement of four players. Each played three round robin games against older teams. The girls outplayed their competition but found the size differential a lot to contend with. They won one game and narrowly lost the other two.

The boys did extremely well, winning all three round robin games, a semi-final and losing on penalty shots after extra time in the final.

The Academy does not report scores or goal scorers, preferring to concentrate on the effort put forward by the players.

All players played extremely well, demonstrating superior skills over their opponents. As this was our first outdoor competition, the coaching staff was extremely happy with the effort. Good sportsmanship was displayed throughout and the parent support was outstanding.

We look forward to more competition and the next tournament, “Soccer-in-the-Sand” in Detroit, on July 25 and 26.

SUFA is concentrating on tournaments like 3-on-3, Beach Soccer and Futsal (Gym 5-a-side), where the kids play in small numbers. This maximizes ball contact and constant involvement in the game. This type of competition has proven key to developing top talent throughout the world. SUFA is still looking for a few more players. Anyone is welcome, no matter where they are registered! Birth certificates are the only requirement.

A number of senior (high school) players from the Academy will be attending scholarship camps in Michigan and New York this month. Any high school player that is interested, can contact the Academy for more information. Time is limited!
