Another week in the books at LIR

The fourth week of racing at Laird International Raceway saw some changes in the traditional race program fans are accustomed to.

One of the changes saw the Factory Four Division run the feature race backwards.

Veteran driver Brent Fewchuk built up a big lead and would eventually hold off a late charge by John Carter to pick up the feature win. Carter cut Fewchuk’s lead to just over a half-second but couldn’t overcome the early-race lead built up by Fewchuk in the 25-lap feature.

Jacob Heimonen took third in the Factory Four feature.

In the 30-lap Factory Stock feature, Jarritt Varcoe picked up a pair of second-place finishes in the heat races but came through when it counted as he won the feature.

Gerry Ross finished second, nearly two full seconds behind Varcoe. J.P. DelPaggio finished third in the feature after running the table in the heat races.

The Modified Division saw Jay Palumbo take home the 30-lap feature, just under a second ahead of veteran driver Kevin Oicle.

Mav MacDonald Jr. finished third in the Modified feature while Dustin Jackson finished fourth. The group were the only four drivers in the 10-driver field to finish on the lead lap.

The night opened with a trio of Australian Pursuit races.

John Robinson won the Factory Four race while DelPaggio took advantage of Keenan Spurway getting loose late to win the Factory Stock Australian Pursuit while Keith King won the Modified race.

The lone division not on the schedule on Thursday night was the Super Late Model Division
