The Erie Otters used home ice to their advantage on Monday night.

After dropping the opening two games of the Ontario Hockey League final in Oshawa against the Generals, the Otters held on to win game three 4-3 at home on Monday.

Remi Elie and Connor McDavid had a goal and an assist each for the Otters while Nick Betz and Alex DeBrincat also scored.

Goaltender Devin Williams made 24 saves.

“(Having a lead) made them (Oshawa) open up a bit,” Erie Coach Kris Kmoblauch told reporters at a press conference following the game. “You can see them having to generate some offence and we don’t have to pressure. We can just play our game and play a good defensive game and get opportunities off of any mistakes that they do make, which are very few.

The Generals scored a pair of goals late in the third period but couldn't find the equalizer. Cole Cassels scored twice while Sam Harding also scored for the Generals.

“We had a good first period and probably deserved better,” Generals Coach D.J. Smith said. “The second period was back and forth but I didn’t think we pressed enough. In the third period we tried to open it up and made some key mistakes that certainly cost us.”

The Generals now lead the series 2-1 heading into game four on Wednesday night.

The Western Hockey League final continued on Monday night as the Kelowna Rockets beat the Brandon Wheat Kings 5-3.
