Soo Greyhounds defenceman Anthony DeAngelo has been honoured again by the Ontario Hockey League.

The slick-skating blueliner was named the recipient of the Max Kaminsky Trophy as the OHL’s most outstanding defenceman on Wednesday afternoon.

The 19-year-old Philadelphia, PA native led all OHL defencemen in scoring with 25 goals and 89 points in 55 games and finished 13th in league scoring.

“It’s an honour to win this award,” DeAngelo said in a league release. “I know it’s an individual award, but I wouldn’t be able to accomplish it without my teammates, coaching staff, and the support of my family.”

A second round pick of the Sarnia Sting in the 2011 OHL Priority Selection, DeAngelo set a franchise record for points by a defenceman with 190 points in 210 games in Sarnia before being traded to the Greyhounds prior to the OHL’s trade deadline in January.

In 236 career games, DeAngelo scored 55 goals and 241 points between the Sting and Greyhounds.

A first-round pick of the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning, DeAngelo was named the OHL’s defenceman of the month in back-to-back months (February and March) during the 2014-15 season and was named the OHL and Canadian Hockey League player of the week for the week ending Mar. 1.

DeAngelo is the fourth Greyhounds defenceman to earn the honour. Ryan Sproul won the award in 2013, Jake Muzzin won the award in 2010 while former Greyhounds coach Craig Hartsburg won the award in 1977.

Owen Sound’s Chris Bigras finished second in voting for the award while North Bay’s Brenden Miller was third.
