Another AHL honour for former Greyhound

It’s been quite the week for former Soo Greyhounds goaltender Matt Murray.

It’s been quite the week for former Soo Greyhounds goaltender Matt Murray.

Just 48 hours after being named the American Hockey League’s rookie of the year, the netminder was named the recipient of the Aldege ‘Baz’ Bastien Memorial Award winner as the league’s outstanding goaltender.

The 20-year-old posted a 25-9-3 record with a 1.51 goals against average, a .943 save percentage and 12 shutouts in 39 appearances.

His goals against average, save percentage and shutout numbers were tops in the AHL during the 2014-15 season and the second-best marks in their respective categories in the 79-year history of the league.

Murray was also named a first-team all-star.

It was a record-setting year for the former Greyhound as his shutout streak of 304:11 set a new league mark.

The Thunder Bay, Ont. native was a third round pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
