Coach Tom is off to the worlds

He coached Team Jacobs to an Olympic Gold Medal in Sochi, Russia just last year, and now Tom Coulterman will take his expertise to the East Coast, but just for this weekend.

He coached Team Jacobs to an Olympic Gold Medal in Sochi, Russia just last year, and now Tom Coulterman will take his expertise to the East Coast, but just for this weekend.

The World Curling Federation is set to host the Coach Mentor Program at this year’s 2015 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Coulterman has been asked to be a part of this year’s program.

“I feel quite honoured to be doing it because I know at this level I’m going to be working with top coaches from Canada and other countries in the world,” said Coulterman. “It’s a real honour and a real privilege to have been asked.”

Coulterman will be working directly with the registered coaches doing presentations on high-performance coaching, as well as being a part of a round table discussion on Sunday morning that will also feature Ken Bagnell.

Bagnell coached Colleen Jones during her reign as Canadian and World Champion, and is also a trained mental performance coach.

The program, only in it’s third year, is described by the World Curling Federation as a form of interactive learning not available in the classroom or online setting.

The WCF looks at coaching as an art which must be learned by hands-on experience.

“We bring in a top curling coach that can offer insight into coaching at a world championship and in Tom’s case, obviously an Olympic championship as well,” said Scott Arnold, Competitions and Development Officer with the World Curling Federation. “Tom is one of the most respected coaches in curling, so he was an obvious choice to ask.”

Running from April 3-5, the program will benefit 16 coaches from around the globe including Canada, the Unites States of America and China.
