The Soo Thunderbirds are in the midst of wrapping up the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League regular season this weekend and played their final home game on Friday night.

The Soo Thunderbirds are in the midst of wrapping up the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League regular season this weekend and played their final home game on Friday night.

The Thunderbirds dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to the Elliot Lake Wildcats at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

Kyle Salmon scored at 3:11 of overtime to give the Wildcats the victory in a game that saw the team tie the game with 18 seconds left in regulation time.

Nathan Campbell tied the game for Elliot Lake while Adam Baxter and Connor Scott also scored.

Elliot Lake goaltender A.J. Smith made 30 saves.

Matt Pinder, Brett Jeffries and Owen Headrick scored for the Thunderbirds while goaltender Mario Culina made 29 saves.

The Thunderbirds record heading into the regular season finale this weekend sits at 37-7-1-6.

The Thunderbirds wrap up their regular season schedule on Saturday night when they are in Blind River to take on the Beavers.
