The bid for a playoff spot at the 2015 Tim Hortons Brier for Brad Jacobs and his team from Soo Curlers took another step on Tuesday afternoon.

The bid for a playoff spot at the 2015 Tim Hortons Brier for Brad Jacobs and his team from Soo Curlers took another step on Tuesday afternoon.

Jacobs and his Northern Ontario rink improved to 6-0 Tuesday with an 11-1 win over Adam Casey of Prince Edward Island in eight ends in draw nine.

The Jacobs rink, which includes third Ryan Fry, second E.J. Harnden and lead Ryan Harnden along with fifth Eric Harnden, jumped out to a 1-0 lead with the hammer in the opening end. It was then that the Jacobs rink proceeded to steal nine points in the next five ends to take a commanding lead. The Jacobs rink would pick up single-point steals in the second and sixth ends; steals of two in the third and fourth ends; and a steal of three in the fifth end.

Jacobs then wrapped up the day with a 7-2 win over Manitoba’s Reid Carruthers in eight ends.

With the hammer, Jacobs scored a pair in the opening end before stealing two in the second end to take a commanding lead early on. After blanking a pair of ends, Carruthers would get on the board with a single in the fifth end only to see Jacobs add two more in the sixth end. The teams would then trade points in the final two ends to round out the game.

With the wins, Northern Ontario remains the lone unbeaten team in the event at 7-0.
Jacobs is back in action on Wednesday morning against Jeremy Mallais of New Brunswick at 10:30 a.m. in draw 11 and then Saskatchewan’s Steve Laycock in draw 12 at 3:30 p.m.
