Successful weekend for Sault schools at NOSSA (8 photos)

The Superior Heights Steelhawks are heading to the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association (OFSAA) triple-A championships for the second consecutive season.

The Superior Heights Steelhawks are heading to the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association (OFSAA) triple-A championships for the second consecutive season.

Superior Heights beat the Lockerby Vikings of Sudbury 59-42 on Saturday to advance out of the NOSSA event held locally over the weekend.

The OFSAA championships open on Mar. 9 in Windsor, Ont.

Nick Servant led the Steelhawks with 15 points in the final while Jake Cruise added 13 points. Lars Moffatt and Andrew O’Brien chipped in with 12 points each for Superior Heights.

Garrett Natale led Lockerby with 10 points.

In the junior final on Saturday, Ethan Lavallee led all scorers with 24 points as St. Charles College of Sudbury beat Superior Heights 72-46. Justin Savard added 21 points while Kristian Shuttleworth had 13 points to lead Superior Heights.

In the AA NOSSA championships in North Bay the Korah Colts won the senior title with a 78-49 win over Lasalle of Sudbury.

The Sault Ste. Marie representative in the junior AA NOSSA tournament, also from Korah, lost a one-point decision to St. Joseph-Scollard Hall in the semi-final. St. Joseph-Scollard Hall advanced with a 36-35 win over the Colts.

The White Pines junior team will also return to Sault Ste. Marie with a NOSSA title after beating Algonquin of North Bay in the final of the NOSSA A championships, which was also held in Sudbury.
