Thanks to a win in his final round robin game, Brad Jacobs and his team from Soo Curlers is off to the final of the Northern Ontario playdowns in Kenora, Ont.

Jacobs advanced directly into Sunday’s final thanks to a 6-3 win over Dylan Johnston of the Fort William Curling Club. The game featured the only two unbeaten teams left in the event with Jacobs finishing the round robin at 7-0 while Johnston finishes second with a 6-1 record.

Johnston will now face Al Hackner, who also competes out of the Thunder Bay-based Fort William Curling Club, in Saturday evening’s semi-final. Hackner finished the round robin 5-2 with his only losses coming to Jacobs and Johnston.

Team Jacobs, which includes third Ryan Fry, second E.J. Harnden and lead Ryan Harnden, is looking to get back to the Tim Horton’s Brier after missing the event last year due to the Olympics.

The other Soo Curlers representative, Chris Glibota, whose team includes third Matt Mann, second Kyle Sherlock and lead Mark Dugas, finished the round robin with a 1-6 record after dropping a 7-1 decision to Mike Jakubo (Sudbury Curling Club).

The championship is set for Sunday at 3 p.m. eastern time (2 p.m. in Kenora).
