Sault Ste. Marie’s Brad Jacobs is back in action this week at the latest Grand Slam of Curling event, the Canadian Open in Yorkton, Sask.
Team Jacobs, which includes third Ryan Fry, second E.J. Harnden and lead Ryan Harnden, is coming off a back-to-back second place finishes at the National and the Home Hardware Canada Cup.
After opening the tournament with an 8-3 loss to Brendan Bottcher in seven ends on Wednesday morning which moved the Jacobs rink into the ‘B’ bracket in the triple-elimination tournament. Bottcher scored four in the seventh end to pick up the win.
On Wednesday night, the Jacobs rink rebounded with a 5-3 win over Scotland’s David Murdoch. Jacobs opened up a 2-0 lead in the second end before the two rinks traded singles the rest of the draw.
In their lone game on Thursday, Team Jacobs picked up a 12-7 win over Reid Carruthers. After falling behind 3-1 through two ends, Jacobs scored four in the third end to take the lead. Jacobs would break a 5-5 tie with three more in the fifth end before sealing the win with four more in the seventh end.
Team Jacobs is back in action on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. EST (2:30 Yotkton time).
