Thunderbirds win two more

The Soo Thunderbirds capped off a perfect-week on Saturday night thanks to an overtime win over the Elliot Lake Wildcats. Brett Jeffries scored the overtime winner 2:07 into the extra frame to lift the Thunderbirds to a 3-2 victory.

Brett Jeffries scored the overtime winner 2:07 into the extra frame to lift the Thunderbirds to a 3-2 victory. Jeffries finished the night with a pair of goals in the win while Jaren Bellini also scored. Mario Culina made 32 saves in the win.

A.J. Smith made 30 saves for the Wildcats while Spencer MacLean and Cole Hepler scored in the loss. Adam Baxter assisted on both Elliot Lake goals.

On Wednesday night, the Thunderbirds picked up a 4-1 win in Sudbury over the Nickel Barons. Culina made 40 saves while Joey Odgen had a goal and an assist offensively. Nathan Hebert set up a pair of goals. Matt Busby, Anthony Miller and Boris Katchouk also scored for the Thunderbirds in the win.

Goaltender Jesse Morin made 29 saves for the Nickel Barons while Dylan Callaghan had the lone goal in the loss.

With the wins, the Thunderbirds record improves to 18-2-0-2.

Next up is a home game against Elliot Lake on Wednesday night.
