The Soo Greyhounds winning streak hit seven games on Friday night.

Darnell Nurse scored at 4:06 of overtime to lift the Greyhounds to a 4-3 win over the Ottawa 67’s at TD Place in Ottawa.

Since a 5-4 loss in Saginaw on Nov. 1, the Greyhounds have won seven in a row, including four straight on the road.

Greyhounds Coach Sheldon Keefe called the win a positive sign.

“We definitely looked like a team that played last night and spent 15 hours on a bus in the last couple of days,” said Keefe. “We didn’t quite have our legs and weren’t all that sharp but it’s a very positive sign that we can still find a way to outshoot our opponents and get two points tonight against a team that played really hard and fast.”

Gabe Guertler had a goal and an assist for the Greyhounds in the win while Sergey Tolchinsky picked up a pair of assists. Charley Graaskamp and Tim Gettinger also scored in the win. Goaltender Brandon Halverson made 28 saves.

Keefe did say there was a positive in the win despite the lengthy travel schedule.

“We’ve got a lot of stuff to work on,” 67’s Coach Jeff Brown said in an interview on the 67’s website following the loss. “We have to just keep getting better so that at the end of the year we can win a game against a team (like the Greyhounds).

The Greyhounds win ends the 67’s home-ice winning streak at six games and improve to 17-5-0-0 in the process. The 67’s record drops to 9-8-1-1 with the loss.

The Greyhounds now enjoy a day off before facing the Kingston Frontenacs on Sunday afternoon in a 2 p.m. start at the K-Rock Centre in Kingston.
