The Korah Colts are NOSSA (Northern Ontario Secondary School Association) junior football champions.
After heavy snow in the Sault Ste. Marie area forced the postponement of the NOSSA championship game over the weekend, the Colts picked up a 14-0 win over the Lively Hawks of Sudbury to cap the season with a NOSSA title.
On a day that day that saw cold weather, high winds and snow, the Colts overcame the elements to win the final game of the junior football season at the high school level.
Much of the Colts offence in the win, including both of the Korah touchdowns, came by way of the run.
The Colts ran the ball 46 times as a team in the win for 167 yards and a pair of majors. Darian Belkosky led the run with 77 yards rushing on 17 carries and both Korah touchdowns. Belkosky’s touchdown runs came from seven and 10 yards out.
Just how tough were things on the offence of both teams on Tuesday?
The Lively offence had 122 yards of offence total, 74 rushing and 48 receiving, in the loss.
On the defensive side of the ball, Belkosky had four tackles and a pair of batted balls in the win.
The senior NOSSA final between Sault Ste. Marie’s Superior Heights Steelhawks and Sudbury’s Lo-Ellen Park Knights is set for Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Superior Heights.
