Over 900 skaters took part in the 2014 Skate Canada – Central Ontario Octoberfest figure skating competition which took place in Barrie this past weekend. This event is popular with skaters across Ontario as the competition is held just prior to Sections where the top figure skaters in each section of the province will compete for advancement to the next round of qualifying events.

Lake Superior Figure Skating Club members, Jordan and Breanne Derochie had personal bests at the competition resulting in a silver medal for Jordan in Juvenile Mens under-14 and a bronze medal for Breanne in Juvenile Ladies under-14. Emilie Vezina and Lilia Pelletier also competed at the event earning personal bests and impressive scores that should see them as key contenders in the upcoming Northern Ontario qualifying events.

These four skaters along with 11 other Lake Superior skaters will be heading to sectionals in Garson, Sudbury on November 7-8.  They will be competing against skaters from across Northern Ontario who will be vying for a spot at either the Skate Canada Challenge event or the provincial competitions in March.
