In the first of back-to-back road games against the Mattawa Blackhawks, the Thunderbirds scored twice in the third period to force overtime on Saturday and beat the Blackhawks 7-6 in double overtime.

Anthony Miller scored at 4:31 of the second overtime period to give the Thunderbirds the victory and extend their winning streak to eight games.

Miller had a pair of goals in the win while Nic Sicoly had two goals and an assist for the Thunderbirds. Defenceman David Radke set up three goals while Nicolas Tassone added a goal and two assists in the win.

Izaak Del Mastro and Joey Miller also scored for the Thunderbirds. Goaltender Brian Kment got the start for the Thunderbirds, stopping 11 of 15 shots in just over a period of work. Mario Culina came in and stopped 28 of 30 shots the rest of the way.

Andy Williams set up three goals for Mattawa in the loss. Colin Nicholson scored a pair of goals while Nathan Avery, Brett Ouderkirk, Kyle Baril and Alex Dajia also scored.

Mattawa goaltender Joe Sheppard stopped 65 shots.

The two teams meet again in Mattawa on Sunday.
