High School Roundup: Superior Heights continues winning ways

Superior Heights improved to 3-0 through two weeks of action in the local high school football league after a convincing week two win. The Steelhawks opened week two with a 57-0 win over White Pines on Wednesday night.

Max Fisher rand for touchdowns of 39, 31 and three yards for Superior Heights in the win. Cam Elgie also had a touchdown run (44 yards) for the Steelhawks. Nick Servant (25 yard catch from Austin Maccarone), Craig Daniel (three yard catch from James White), Earl Gibbs (40 yard catch from Noah Grigg) and Isaac Belsito (45 yard catch from Noah Grigg) had touchdown catches for Superior Heights in the win.

On Wednesday night, St. Basil scored late in the fourth quarter to squeeze out a 30-27 win over St. Mary’s Anthony Biocchi caught touchdown passes of 32 and seven yards along with a two-point conversion while Blake Antonello (21-yard catch) and Rocky Krancevich (seven-yard catch) also had touchdowns for St. Basil. Krancevich kicked a pair of extra points and two single points in the win.

Dan Gioia (69-yard interception return), Andrew Dale (21-yard catch), Mitchell Stadnyk (15-yard catch) and Joel Soltys (two-yard run) had the majors for St. Mary’s. Michael Pucci kicked three extra points for the Knights.

On Saturday, Avery Ciotti score three touchdowns to lead Korah to a 49-0 win over White Pines.

Ciotti ran the ball in on an 80-yard punt return, an 80-yard kickoff return and a two-yard run. Chris Moskal added touchdown runs of 25 and six yards for the Colts. Jarret Litalien rounded out the Colts s coring with touchdown catches of 20 yards and five yards in the win.

In exhibition action, Superior Heights dropped a 45-7 decision to Sault High in the Michigan Sault on Sunday. Andrew Batman had the lone Superior Heights touchdown in the loss, recovering an Austin Maccarone fumble in the Sault High endzone in the second quarter.

In junior action this week, St. Mary’s beat Superior Heights 32-21 while details of the other junior game in week two between Korah and Superior Heights were unavailable at the time of writing.

Week three of high school football sees a pair of junior games and senior games. In junior action, St. Mary’s faces Korah at Superior Heights on Sept. 23 in a 5:15 p.m. kickoff and White Pines meets Superior Heights at Superior Heights at 10 a.m. on Sept. 27.

Senior action during week three sees Korah meet St. Mary’s on Sept. 24 at 5:15 p.m. at Superior Heights. The other senior game in week two sees St. Basil meet White Pines at 7 p.m. on Sept. 26 at Rocky DiPietro Field.
