Girls high school basketball season gets underway (update)

The first week of girls high school basketball has wrapped up. On Tuesday night, a pair of games at the junior and senior levels kicked off the season. In junior action, a 12-point effort from Taylor Elliott led Korah to a 48-22 win over St. Basil.

On Tuesday night, a pair of games at the junior and senior levels kicked off the season.

In junior action, a 12-point effort from Taylor Elliott led Korah to a 48-22 win over St. Basil. Jayden Pettenuzzo chipped in with eight points for Korah while Tayrn Lamorie had eight points for St. Basil.

In Tuesday’s other junior game, Superior Heights picked up a 23-17 season-opening win over White Pines. Julia Bellerose scored 13 points for Superior Heights to lead all scorers in the game.

Jenna Solomon, Brittany Cole and Mya Demeny had four points each for White Pines in the loss.

In senior action on Tuesday, St. Basil beat Korah 39-27. Angela Caicco and Emma Fillion had 11 points each for St. Basil. Danielle Wilding scored eight points for Korah.

Tuesday’s other senior game saw Superior Heights beat White Pines 40-36. Kiara Hamilton had 14 points for Superior Heights while Olivia Bruno of White Pines led all scorers in the game with 17 points.

On Thursday night, St. Mary’s picked up victories at the junior and senior levels.

In junior action, St. Mary’s beat St. Basil 42-32. Chrissy Colizza scored 14 points while Emily Scarpino added 12 points for St. Mary’s in the win. Jaurdyn Clement led St. Basil with 14 points while Mackenzie Monico added 12.

The senior game on Thursday evening saw St. Mary’s beat St. Basil 34-25. Cody-Lee Deevey had eight points for St. Mary’s. Julia Pulente scored seven points in the win for the Knights. Emma Fillion had 12 points for St. Basil.

Week two action begins on Sept. 23 when St. Mary’s faces Superior Heights at Superior Heights and White Pines hosts St. Basil at both the junior and senior levels.

Other action in week two sees Korah play host to Superior Heights on Sept. 24 and White Pines meeting St. Mary’s at St. Mary’s on Sept. 25.Junior games begin at 5:!5 p.m. while senior games begin at 7 p.m.
