For one final time this summer, Laird International Raceway was the setting as stock car action locally wrapped up for the 2014 season.

The points champions were made official on what was the last race program of the year on Sunday evening.

After a third-place finish in the Super Late Model, veteran driver Keith King wrapped up the season as the divisional points champion.

“It’s the second year in a row and there’s no better feeling,” King told Local2 following the feature.

King added that he plans to make some adjustments to his car over the winter leading into the 2015 season.

“We’ll see what we can find to make us quicker,” King also said. “The competition’s getting tougher.”

Jay Palumbo won the Super Late Model feature race with Dan Byrnes finishing second.

“We’ve had some rough luck this year,” Palumbo said during his post-race interview on the track. “I’m starting to get comfortable now that I’ve got some laps in the super late model.”

Sunday proved to be a special day as the track honoured a pair of familiar faces with Memorial races in honour of Barry Myers and Roy Brokelbank.

The Factory Four race saw Corey Carbone take the checkered flag in a race run in honour of Myers, a former flagman at LIR. The win caps off a special period for the driver who recently got married as well.

Buddy Palahnuk finished second while Brent Fewchuk finished third. Fewchuk took the Factory Four points championship.

Keenan Spurway took the points title in the Laird Modified division despite not running on Sunday. Rick Ellis won the feature race ahead of Chris Miller and Dustin Jackson

In the Factory Stock division, run in honour of Brokelbank, Jason Praysner capped off a points title with a feature win.

John Ross was second while Jarrit Varcoe took third in the Factory Stock feature.

The Xtreme Four division saw the top two drivers in the points standings come down to the final day. Thanks to a heat race win and a victory in the feature, Damon Dubas won the points title by three points over Jamie Wilson.
