DESBARATS - Emily Good, a local track and field athlete who will be entering grade 12 this fall has been busy this summer, competing in a series of track and field competitions in Ontario and Langley, B.C.

After finishing the high school season at OFSAA in Mississauga in June, she focused on the Legion track and field championships.

Emily picked up 3 gold medals at the District H championships in Sudbury in Shot Put, Discus and Javelin, to qualify for the Provincial Championships.

The Legion Provincial Championships were held in Brampton at the Terry Fox Stadium, July 11-13.

Emily turned in a solid performance, including a silver medal in shot put with a personal best throw of 12.53 m (her previous personal best was 11.56m) and a 4th place finish in Discus with a top throw of 34.00m.

Despite these solid scores, she did not qualify for the National Championships as a part of team Ontario.

Last season Emily joined the Laurel Creek Track and Field club, based in Kitchener, ON so that she could participate in Athletics Ontario competitions.

With the Laurel Creek club, she competed in Windsor, ON at the Athletics Ontario Provincial Championships during the August long weekend, August 1-3.

Emily improved both her shot put and discus scores to secure a gold medal and bronze medal respectively.

She made another significant increase in her personal best shot put with a throw of 13.76m and improved her discus score with a toss of 34.55m.

This set the stage for her to travel to Langley BC, from August 13-18, to compete at the Legion National Youth Championships in the Under-18 category.

Emily was ranked number 1 in shot put and 12th in discus.

She did not disappoint in Shot Put, as her throw of 13.36m held up as the top of the field, and she is bringing home the gold medal.

She also improved her seeding in Discus, moving up 5 spots with a 7th place finish, improving her personal best with a throw of 35.76m.

Emily will now be focusing her attention to training for next season and for the 2017 Deafylmpics in Turkey, as a part of the Canadian National Deaf Athletics Team.
