NEWS RELEASE

SAULT STE. MARIE
TOUCH FOOTBALL LEAGUE

*************************
Arm chair football fans and washed up football players, we want you! Ya, really!

As the league prepares for its 40th season this September, the Sault Ste. Marie Touch Football League is looking for more football teams.

The growing league which has been in existence since 1974 offers two divisions: a recreational division and a competitive division.

The league is hosting a Captain's Meeting on Thursday, August 21, 7 p.m. at Wacky Wings on Lake Street.

Come with a roster and your team's registration fee and you're in!

“We had an outstanding football season in 2013 with a 16-team league and over 250 players participating. Feedback from players and our sponsors was positive. Going into our 40th season, we would love to add a few more teams to continue our momentum,” said Dave Pitcher, SSM Touch Football League grand poo-ba/president. “If you and your buddies love to play football and if you love hanging around with fellow football guys twice a week, this is the league for you!”

The Sault Touch Football league features seven players per side on the field.

We play four down football and teams can pass, run and/or punt the ball to score points.

Six points for every Touchdown scored with one point or two point converts options available after a touchdown.

With seven or eight teams in each division currently, the teams will see a variety of opponents throughout the year with very different strategies when it comes to running their respective offences and defences.

If you think you have a group of friends who could put up some serious points, or be the next Steel Curtain - we hope to see you on the field this fall!

Contact the league at [email protected]; visit our website www.SSMTouchFootball.com or Facebook site for more information.

Hope to see you on the field!

About us

The Sault Ste. Marie Touch Football League has been in existence since 1974.

The league was founded by a group of local football enthusiasts, spearheaded by Matt Thorp - a city employee at the time in the Community Services Department.

The league is filled with former collegiate, university, Sault Steeler, Sabercats and high school all-star players as well as arm-chair football fans who just love to play the game.

We have even had former CFL players participate in our league.

In 2013, we had 16 teams and over 250 players in the league.

The average age of our players is 30 and players range in age from 18 to 64!

The Sault Touch Football season runs from September to November.

Games are played at a variety of Sault football fields including: under the lights at Rocky DiPietro or Queen Elizabeth B-Field, Superior Heights (yes we play on the turf baby!) and select high school fields.
