PLYMOUTH, MI – The Soo Greyhounds picked up a pair of important points on Friday night as they continued a three-game road trip.

The Greyhounds built up a 3-0 lead and held on for a 4-3 win over the Plymouth Whalers in Ontario Hockey League action at Compuware Sports Arena in Plymouth.

Jared McCann had a goal and an assist for the Greyhounds in the win. Jean Dupuy, Andrew Fritsch and Blake Speers scored for the Greyhounds in the win. Defenceman Darnell Nurse set up a pair of goals in the win.

Brandon Halverson got the start for the Greyhounds and made 34 saves in the win.

Zach Lorentz scored a pair of goals in the second period for the Whalers to pull them to within one at 3-2. Mathieu Henderson scored in the third period to again pull the Whalers to within one at 4-3 but the home team couldn't tie the game.

Whalers goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 35 shots in the loss.

With the win, the Greyhounds record improves to 20-6-0-3, good for 43 points.

The loss drops the Whalers record to 11-16-0-3.

Greyhounds coach Sheldon Keefe could not be reached for comment following the win.

Friday’s win took on an added importance as the Windsor Spitfires and Saginaw Spirit, the two teams that are chasing the Greyhounds in the OHL’s West Division.

The Spitfires dropped a 5-4 overtime decision to the London Knights while the Spirit dropped a 5-3 decision in Kitchener.

A game of added interest for the Greyhounds saw the Guelph Storm drop a 5-3 decision in Owen Sound to the Attack.

The Greyhounds return to action on Saturday night in Saginaw against the Spirit in a 7:11 p.m. puck drop at the Dow Event Centre.
