Monday, December 02, 2013   by: Brad Coccimiglio

The Soo Thunderbirds maintained their hold atop the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League standings over the weekend with a 4-2 win in Elliot Lake over the Bobcats on Saturday night.

Thunderbirds goaltender Joel Horodziejczyk made 25 saves in the win while Joey Miller picked up a pair of assists offensively.

Nathan Hebert, Riley Bordin, Nicolas Tassone and Owen Headrick scored for the Thunderbirds in the win.

Aaron Carmichael and Dustin Cordeiro scored for Elliot Lake.

The win improves the Thunderbirds record to 23-4-0-2 and gives them a four-point lead over the Kirkland Laker Gold Miners in the NOJHL standings. The Gold Miners have three games in hand on the Thunderbirds.

With the loss, Elliot Lake’s record drops to 13-10-0-3 as they continue to battle the Abitibi Eskimos for fourth in the standings. The Eskimos currently trail the Bobcats by a single point.

On Monday, the league also announced their three stars of the week, which included Thunderbirds forward Joey Miller. Miller had four points in two games last week
