Superior Heights wins junior football titleSunday, November 03, 2013 by: Brad Coccimiglio
Call it taking a perfect season to another level.
The Superior Heights junior football team capped off a city championship on Saturday afternoon with a 35-0 win over the St. Basil Saints to take the junior title. What made it more impressive is the fact that Superior Heights still has yet to give up a point to their opposition this season.
The Steelhawks finished atop the junior standings in the regular season, without surrendering a point in the process. Superior Heights then blanked White Pines 14-0 in last week’s semi-final to advance t the final, where they shut out St. Basil.
The Steelhawks now advance to the Northern Ontario Secondary School Association (NOSSA) championship next Saturday in Sudbury, marking the first NOSSA championship game at the junior level.
Max Fisher led the way offensively for Superior Heights with touchdown runs of 11 and 57 yards in the opening half and then running back the opening kickoff of the second half 75 yards for a touchdown. Gavyn McCabe caught a 69-yard touchdown pass from Noah Grigg while Jackson Zack-Coneybere also caught a touchdown pass from Grigg to cap the scoring. Noah Spina kicked three extra points and caught a pass for a two-point convert for Superior Heights.
