The high school hockey season officially kicked off on Wednesday night with the annual East/West game at the John Rhodes Community Centre.
The West, comprised of St. Mary’s, St. Basil and Korah, defeated the East, comprised of CASS, Superior Heights and White Pines by a 9-1 score to pick up the win.
Each school played two periods against another school in the game.
St. Mary’s put the West in the drivers seat early on by defeating CASS 3-1 to open the night. Alex Morin and Jaron Rowe had a goal and an assist each for St. Mary’s. Erik Paradis added a pair of assists while Jesse Delavalle also scored for the Knights. Wesley Mitchell had the lone goal for CASS in the loss.
In game two, St. Basil scored a 2-0 win over Superior Heights to increase the West lead to 5-1. Travis Quevillon picked up the shutout while Taylor Lamorie and Jonathon Colombi completed the scoring for the Saints.
Korah capped off the West win with a 4-0 victory over White Pines in the final game. Zack Quesnele and Michael Maione split the shutout for the Colts. Jack MacLeod had a goal and an assist for Korah in the win while Mitchell Oliverio set up a pair of goals. Matt DiBerardino, Cam White and Jay Johnson also scored for Korah in the win.
The regular season officially kicks off on Sunday night with three games at the Essar Centre. St. Basil and CASS kick the night off at 5:30 p.m. followed by White Pines and Superior Heights at 7 p.m. and Korah meeting St. Mary’s at 8:30 p.m.
Other action scheduled for next week includes three games on Nov. 6 at the John Rhodes Community Centre beginning at 3:30 p.m. when CASS faces White Pines (Rhodes 1). The other two games on Nov. 6 feature St. Basil and St. Mary’s at 6:30 p.m. while Superior Heights faces Korah at 8 p.m., both on Rhodes 2.
