The Soo Thunderbirds saw their winning streak halted at 11 games on Sunday afternoon.
Corbin Bean scored at 2:54 of overtime to give the Espanola Rivermen a 3-2 win over the Thunderbirds. Despite the loss, the Thunderbirds remain unbeaten in regulation in 12 straight games.
Bean and Brennan Dubchak had a goal and an assist each for Espanola in the win while Byron Sam also scored. Espanola goaltender Marc Terriault stopped 26 shots in the win.
Nathan Hebert and Nicolas Tassone scored for the Thunderbirds while Riley Bordin assisted on both goals. Brian Kment stopped 18 shots in the loss.
On Saturday night the Thunderbirds picked up a 3-2 win on the road in Sudbury against the Nickel Barons. Jaren Bellini’s third-period goal held up as the winner while Hebert and Owen Headrick also scored in the win. Joel Horodziejczyk stopped 32 shots.
Brody Brunet and Ryan Punkari scored for Sudbury while goaltender Michael Muzyka stopped 43 shots, including 22 in the third period.
Next up for the Thunderbirds is a pair of homes games that see the team host Sudbury on Nov. 1 and Espanola on Nov. 2. Puck drop on both nights at the Essar Centre is set for 7:30 p.m.
