Gameday Preview: Greyhounds look to tame offensively-skilled ColtsSaturday, September 28, 2013 by: Brad Coccimiglio
The Soo Greyhounds will put their season-opening two game winning streak on the line on Saturday night when they host the Barrie Colts.
The Greyhounds opened the Ontario Hockey League season with wins on home ice over the Sudbury Wolves (10-3) and the latest coming on Friday night over the North Bay Battalion (2-1).
The Colts bring town a solid veteran corps that includes the likes of Zach Hall, Mitchell Theoret and defenceman Aaron Ekblad.
The Colts enter the game on the heels of a 5-3 loss in Sudbury on Friday night while the Greyhounds beat North Bay 2-1, also in Friday night.
The Colts entered the 2013-14 season expected to be among the elite teams of the Eastern Conference and have opened the season with a pair of wins in three outings and have shown to be offensively sound.
With Mitchell Theoret, Zach Hall and Andreas Athanasiou leading the way, scoring doesn’t seem to be an issue for the Colts. On the blueline, a group led by Aaron Ekblad is expected to be slid as well, making the Colts a tough team to contend with in the Eastern Conference.
The game will mark another test for the Greyhounds prior to heading on the road for their first lengthy rod trip of the season that will take them to Ottawa, Belleville and Kingston next weekend The trip is one of the longest by sheer mileage that the Greyhounds have to endure.
But first, a home game at the Essar Centre against the Colts. Puck drop is set for 7:07 p.m. If you can’t be there live, don’t forget to check SooToday.com for a live blog from the arena.
The rest of Saturday’s schedule looks like this:

- Windsor vs. Erie (7:05 p.m.)
- Saginaw vs. North Bay (7:11 p.m.)
- Owen Sound vs. Sudbury (7:30 p.m.)
