Gameday Preview: Greyhounds host North BayThursday, September 26, 2013 by: Brad Coccimiglio
The Soo Greyhounds will get a boost when they take to the ice on Friday night as the Essar Centre to host the North Bay Battalion.
The Greyhounds will have Darnell Nurse back in the lineup as they continue a three-game homestand that also sees them host the Barrie Colts.
Nurse was cut by the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night after their pre-season game against the New York Rangers.
The addition of Nurse will see the Greyhounds rearrange their defence pairings from their home/season opener last Saturday against Sudbury that saw two rookies in action in Kyle Jenkins and Colton White.
The Greyhounds are coming off a 10-3 win over the Sudbury Wolves last Saturday night in a game that saw Jared McCann score four times while Sergey Tolchinsky added a goal and three assists. The game was the lone match on the first weekend of the season after the Greyhounds and Wolves were postponed in Sudbury on Friday night due to heavy fog in Sudbury arena.
As for the Battalion, North Bay enters the game coming off an opening weekend that saw them beat Ottawa (4-3) and Belleville (4-1). The wins came after the Battalion dropped a 5-2 decision to the Kingston Frontenacs on opening night.
Sault Ste. Marie native Mike Amadio currently sits in a three-way tie for the North Bay scoring lead with five points (two goals, three assists) in three games. Barclay Goodrow (two goals, three assists) and Vincent Praplan (two goals, three assists) are also atop the Battalion scoring leaders.
