The St. Basil Saints sit as the lone undefeated team in the senior high school football league after two weeks of action.
St. Basil scored a 16-8 win over St. Mary’s to open week two. Mitch Mazzuca led St. Basil to the win, completing 12-of-26 passes for 207 yards while also running for 121 yards on 12 carries. Mazzuca ran for a touchdown in the win, scoring from 61-yards out. Joey Bruni caught four passes for 89 yards and a touchdown while David Toppan caught seven passes for 101 yards. Joe Medaglia kicked an eight-yard field goal to round out the St. Basil scoring.
Justin Senecal scored on a five-yard touchdown run for St. Mary’s. The Knights added two points as St. Basil conceded a safety in the third quarter. Jason Thibodeau ran for 81 yards on 22 carries for St. Mary’s.
On Saturday, Superior Heights beat Korah 42-21. Superior Heights quarterback Nathan Elgie completed eight-of-nine passes for 197 yards and a pair of touchdown passes. Michael Bogensberger caught a 22-yard touchdown pass while Jeff Auger completed an 85-yard pass-and-run for a touchdown in the Superior Heights win. Auger also ran the ball in for touchdowns from six and 25 yards out. Stevan Hiiemaa ran for two touchdowns (two and 22 yards).
Brent Villeneuve ran for 150 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns for Korah. Villeneuve ran for touchdowns of two and 63 yards. Mat DiBerardino caught a six-yard touchdown pass from Skyler Kroll
The senior schedule for this week includes St. Basil facing Korah on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Rocky DiPietro Field while Superior Heights faces St. Mary’s at Superior Heights on Saturday afternoon.
