The first week of action in the city high school football loop is completed.
In the senior loop, St. Basil picked up a 33-14 win over Superior Heights while St. Mary’s beat Korah 31-7.
For St. Basil, quarterback Mitch Mazzuca completed five of seven passes for 115 yards and ran for 60 yards, including a one-yard touchdown run. Chris Kramer also had a touchdown with a 72-yard catch and un. Aiden McLeod ran the ball in from three yards out for a touchdown. Paolo Bruni recovered a fumble and returned it 65 yards for a touchdown. Kicker Joe Medaglia kicked a pair of field goals (33 yards and 24 yards).
Mike Bogensberger had a pair of touchdown catches (11 and 12 yards) for Superior Heights in the loss.
On Saturday, St. Mary’s got a pair of touchdowns from Ray Duplin in their season opening win. Duplin ran the ball in from six yards out and also caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Justin Elwgren. Justin Senecal had touchdown runs of one and two yards. Josh Thibodeau kicked a 20-yard field goal and four extra points.
Brent Villeneuve scored on a one-yard touchdown run for Korah.
This week sees a pair of games on the senior schedule including St. Mary’s vs. St. Basil on Thursday night before Korah takes on Superior Heights on Saturday afternoon.
