The Soo Greyhounds remain winless in Ontario Hockey League exhibition action after a 3-1 loss to the Sudbury Wolves in Sudbury on Friday night.
The Greyhounds couldn’t overcome three power play goals scored by the Wolves in the first two periods of action that built up a 3-0 lead for the home team.
Jorgen Karterud had the lone goal for the Greyhounds in the loss, scoring in the third period.
Goaltender Brandon Halverson saw his first action of the pre-season, getting the start and stopping 30 shots.
Sault Ste. Marie native Chad Thibodeau had a pair of goals in the second period for the Wolves. Jacob Harris had the other Sudbury goal.
The Greyhounds outshot the Wolves 35-33 in the loss.
The game saw the return of defenceman Tyler Ganly and forward Mitchell Dempsey to the Greyhounds. Ganly (Carolina) and Dempsey (Boston) were at their respective NHL team rookie camps.
Numerous veterans were out of the Greyhounds lineup including Matt Murray (Pittsburgh Penguins NHL camp), Andrew Fritsch, Dylan Staples, Jared McCann, Alex Gudbranson, Darnell Nurse (Edmonton Oilers camp), Sergey Tolchinsky (Carolina Hurricanes camp) and Tyler Gaudet.
First round pick Blake Speers also did not suit up on Friday.
The Wolves made news earlier in the day as well.
The Wolves announced they have dealt 17-year-old defenceman Josh McFadden to the Guelph Storm. In return, the Wolves receive an 8th round draft pick.
