The Soo Thunder minor midget team competed in their first tournament of the season as they traveled to Toronto for the Toronto Titans International Minor Midget Prospect Tournament.
The Thunder returned home with a pair of ties and two losses after four games.
The Thunder opened the tournament with a 1-1 tie against the Toronto Young Nationals. Matthew McKay had the lone goal for the Thunder while Cameron Beaudry scored for the Young Nationals.
In game two, McKay and Cameron Elsby scored as the Thunder skated to a 2-2 tie with the Ottawa 67’s. Jacob Kendrick and Jacob Hould scored for Ottawa.
The Thunder dropped a 4-3 decision to the Buffalo Regals in game three. Austin Rowe set up a pair of goals for the Thunder while Daniel Cicchini, Zachary Senecal and Ryan Mulligan scored for the Thunder. Zachary Wagner scored a pair of goals for Buffalo. Wagner’s second goal came in the third period and held up as the game winner while Scott Ramaekens and Josh Drake also scored. Anthony Hore added two assists in the win.
The Thunder wrapped up the tournament with a 5-2 loss to the Don Mills Flyers. Jonny Hammond had a goal and an assist in the loss. McKay also scored in the loss. Dom Commisso scored a pair of goals while Jacob McLennan added two assists for Don Mills. Colton Trumbla, Owen Ramsey and Nikita Kristal also scored.
