Jacobs to play for gold medal

Sault Ste. Marie’s Brad Jacobs has assured himself of a medal at the 2013 World Men’s Curling Championship in Victoria BC.

After struggling to end the round robin portion of the tournament, Jacobs – with third Ryan Fry, second E.J. Harnden and lead Ryan Harnden – won a pair of games today to advance to Sunday’s final.

Jacobs picked up a 6-3 win over Scotland’s David Murdoch on Saturday evening to advance to the final. The Jacobs rink scored a pair in the fourth end before scoring three in the six end to take a 5-2 lead at the time. The two sides traded singles in ends eight and nine.

Jacobs advanced to the semi-final thanks to an 8-6 win over Denmark’s Rasmus Stjerne. Jacobs scored a pair in the tenth end to pick up the win. Jacobs scored deuces in the sixth, eighth and tenth ends en route to the win.

With the loss, Denmark’s Stjerne will play in the bronze medal game on Sunday against Murdoch..

With the semi-final win, Jacobs  advances to Sunday’s gold medal match against Sweden’s Niklas Edin.
