OHL Roundup: Whalers offense explodes to open playoffs

The Plymouth Whalers made a statement as the second day of the Ontario Hockey League playoffs is now in the books.
On home ice, Vincent Trocheck scored three times and assisted on two more goals as the Whalers beat the Sarnia Sting 11-2. Tom Wilson added a goal and three assists for the Whalers in the win. Stefan Noesen (two goals, one assist) and Matthew Mistele (one goal, two assists) had three point nights. Garrett Meurs scored twice for Plymouth. Gianluca Curcuruto and Cody Payne also scored for the Whalers. Reid Boucher and Charles Sarault scored for Sarnia in the game one loss.
In London, Max Domi had two goals and an assist as the London Knights opened up a 1-0 series lead over the Saginaw Spirit, thanks to a 5-2 win on Friday night. Alex Broadhurst and Dakota Mermis added a goal and an assist each in the win. Josh Anderson also scored for the Knights. Chris Tierney set up three goals in the win. Andrey Alexeev and Eric Locke scored for Saginaw in the loss.
In Oshawa, Scott Laughton had two goals and an assist as the Oshawa Generals beat the Niagara IceDogs 5-2, taking a 1-0 series lead in the process. Lucas Lessio and Michael Dal Colle had a goal and an assist in the win. Bradley Latour also scored for the Generals. Ryan Strome and Carter Verhaeghe scored for Niagara in the loss.
In Kitchener, Ryan Murphy scored twice as the Kitchener Rangers beat the Guelph Storm 5-2. The Rangers also open up a 1-0 series lead in the process. Joshua Leivo set up three goals in the win while Tobias Rieder added two assists. Even McEneny, Curtis Meighan and Matt Puempel also scored for the Rangers in the win. Goaltender John Gibson stopped 36 shots in the win. Andrey Pedan had a goal and an assist for the storm in the loss. Jason Dickinson also scored.
The OHL playoff schedule sees four games on tap for Tuesday, including:
