Thursday, March 21, 2013 by: Brad Coccimiglio

The Soo Greyhounds came one goal away from guaranteeing themselves a road split as they opened up the 2013 Ontario Hockey League playoffs in Owen Sound on Thursday night with a 2-1 overtime loss to the Attack.
The loss came in the playoff opener for both clubs as Daniel Milne converted a feed from Holden Cook to give the Attack the win. The goal came shortly after Attack forward Zach Nastasiuk was turned aside by Greyhounds netminder Matt Murray on a partial break early in the extra frame.
The Greyhounds jumped out to a 1-0 in the first period when Michael Schumacher beat Attack goaltender Jordan Binnington, who stopped 36 shots by the Greyhounds.
Milne finished the night with a goal and assists while Artur Gavrus also scored.
Attack goaltender Jordan Binnington stopped 36 shots in the win.
Michael Schumacher scored for the Greyhounds while goaltender Matt Murray stopped 36 shots,
For the Greyhounds, Russian forward Sergey Tolchinsky returned to the lineup and played significant minutes for the team. The import forward was originally expected to be out three to four weeks with what the team called an upper body strain.
The game also saw the loss of Jared McCann to the Greyhounds lineup.
McCann was injured after a hit by Owen Sound’s Cameron Brace early in the second period. McCann left the game and did not return. Reports from the Rogers crew broadcasting the game from Owen Sound were that the rookie forward was taken to hospital but further details were not known. McCann’s status for game two of the series remains up in the air.
Game two goes Saturday night in Owen Sound.

thebeej 3/22/2013 12:13:04 AM ReportCan't blame Murray tonight. He was their best player!
Bono 3/22/2013 1:40:16 AM ReportChris Buenomo, yet again costs a game...
Oldie Goldie 3/22/2013 5:20:20 AM ReportI believe that the hit to the head of McCann is a suspendable penalty.
Review of the hit will show this to be true. It, at least, deserved a 4 minute penalty.
Bob the builder 3/22/2013 8:10:17 AM ReportIt was good to see our little Russian player back in the game.
MissionToVenis41 3/22/2013 8:41:45 AM ReportThe Greyhounds jumped out to a 1-0 in the first period when Michael Schumacher beat Wolves goaltender Franky Palazzese stopped 36 shots by the Greyhounds.
Wolves??????
duster_b 3/22/2013 9:53:30 AM Reportanother greyhound been hit in the head, no penalty...probably no suspension for a clear hit to the head...wtg OHL...they hate our hounds...check the video
tommy_boi07 3/22/2013 12:00:07 PM ReportDon't be surprised if there is no suspension. While the hit definitely deserved suspension, David branch is so corrupt in his hatred for all things Sault Ste. Marie, he won't do anything. Had a greyhound delivered the hit however you could guarantee at least 4 games for it. So disgusting and it's getting worse.
Norm 3/22/2013 1:16:08 PM ReportBranch is not corrupt in his head, stupid statement. Bono, did you ever play hockey? Don't blame anybody, not even Bonoumo. Miller, Nurse, Sproul, could of been caught in a turn over, penalty, whatever. It happens to the most seasoned players in the world. Don't make him feel any worse than he might feel already.
Bono 3/22/2013 4:50:02 PM ReportI've played hockey, I've played jr A hockey.... I coach hockey at a fairly high level.... I know the game.... That kid is the worst the defencemen I've ever seen in the OHL... Clearly you don't know the game at all if you think otherwise.... Everytime the other team scores, he's on the ice... Watch for it..... That OT goal was 100000% his fault... The guy skates around him, Buenomo lets him go and doesn't touch the guy, he goes behind the net, centres the puck and they score... And surprise surprise, on the replay Buenomo is standing there doing nothing...
rob24 3/22/2013 6:35:33 PM ReportThat hit should be a suspension definetely but you blasting buonomo doesn't sound to good if you ever watch the hounds as i have all year there defense goes like this any guy on this team gets beat by speed on the outside on a nightly basis. as for the game i thought the hounds played quite good with a few hiccups here and there but pretty good game by the boys . hope they can pull out a win in game2.
Norm 3/23/2013 12:15:40 PM ReportRob, you make sense. Bono, hockey players, especially people who coached hockey, don't bad mouth other players and coaches. It's a fast game, mistakes are made, players usually give a hundred per cent in these playoff situations. I don't believe you played and coached like you say you did. We can say anything behind a computer. I could say I lost an arm in Nam, and I'm typing with one hand, yea right. I could say I scored twenty goals on Oldcat, well maybe ten. Bottom line, they all do their best, NHL bound, AHL, Europe, whatever. Maybe Bunomo won't go anywhere as we know he's not as good as the others. Though he can hold his head high knowing he gave it all he had.
Bono 3/23/2013 8:59:32 PM ReportIt's that exact attitude that is ruining our society... "Oh, it's ok if you suck, as long as you try hard!!" "Oh, it's ok if you fail that test, as long as you tried"... It's a joke... It's not ok... Failure is not ok
Norm 3/24/2013 10:52:16 AM ReportBono, hate to say it, but you suck.
PrimeControllers 3/24/2013 11:55:25 PM ReportI'm so confused how we can blame one person for a team mistake. The boys played well. But blaming it on Sproul and Buonomo ? That's kind of ridiculous don't you think ? It could have been anyone on the ice. I do not see any of you people on the ice. So you can't sit behind your computer screen and try to chirp. It doesn't make sence. We took some dumb penalties. And we couldn't capitalize on our PP chances, I think Keefe needs to reevaluate his PP unit as we were horrid in the first 2.
PrimeControllers 3/25/2013 12:22:11 AM ReportBono, your bashing one individual. I can tell you and bet you my yearly income, that he was not on for all the goals. You need to really think what your typing and re read. You mise well just hit backspace on the whole thing, because your thoughts are stupid and inaccurate, yes he was on the ice, did he get beat? No. The player went around the net as he couldn't drive because Buonomo was there. Sproul was standing beside the net as a second goalie. But our luck it went through Sprouls skates and on to an Owen Sound stick. Blaming it on an individual is stupid and not right. I have seen I over 50 hound games this year, and I have seen so many mistakes I couldn't count them on 50 hands. You also saying you played hockey at Jr A and are coaching, would love to know who would take you, cause your hockey sense is worthless. You type like your 15 years old.
