Super-G fast and furious at Searchmont Resort
Today was the first day of the Alpine Ontario U16 Provincials at Searchmont Resort.
For the Men’s Super-G, the top three spots went to Corey McConville from Devil’s Glen near Collingwood, with a time of 45.92 seconds for gold, and Spencer Shaw from Caledon, tied with Henry Banfield from Devil’s Glen at 46.21 for a pair of silvers.
The Women’s Super-G saw Rachel Clarke from the National Academy in Collingwood win the gold in 47.65 seconds, Sydney Payne from Caledon netted silver with 47.70 seconds and the bronze going to Paige Foxcroft of Craigleith with a time of 48.19 seconds.
Chianti Brown was the top Searchmont Ski Runner with a 10th place finish in the Women’s Super-G, the only speed race in the three-day event.
Teammates Avery Marcoux finished 16th, Linsday Virene 32nd, Abigail Wolfe 36th, Alexis Mezzomo 39th and Candace Huard 45th.
The Searchmont Ski Runners men also fared well, with Chandler Simpson finishing 26th, and teammates Nicholas Cantarutti in 62nd and Matthew Farrell in 71st places.
These are excellent results for a very competitive field.

The athlete banquet will take place at 1:30 p.m. today at Searchmont Resort.
Tomorrow’s event is the Giant Slalom; this race format has two runs for both the men and the women, with one run in the morning and one in the afternoon.
The public is invited to watch this exciting, high-caliber event at Searchmont Resort, starting at 10 a.m.
