Colts and Knights win NOSSA titles

The Korah Colts are the 2013 AAA NOSSA champions.

Korah won the title with a 1-0 win over St. Charles of Sudbury on Tuesday night at the John Rhodes Community Centre. Brendan  Devoe’s goal late in the opening period held up as the winner in the game.

The title came after Korah needed to win the final round robin game earlier in the day against Algonquin. KOrah beat Algonquin 4-1 in the final round robin game of the tournament to advance. Aaron Savage had three goals in the win. Justin Pelley also scored while Jay Johnson added two assists. Anthony Yearington had the lone goal for Algonquin.

Tuesday’s other round robin game saw St. Charles beat CASS 4-2 thanks to a two-goal performance from Blake Purcell. Tyler Scagnetti and Peter Raymond also scored for St. Charles in the win while David Ranger set up three goals. Brysin Shaw had both goals for CASS in the loss.

In earlier action in the tournament, Algonquin opened the tournament on Monday morning with a 4-3 win over CASS. Cory Tremblay, Mitchell Ouellette, Cohen Allison and Anthony Yearington scored for Algonquin. Dakota Raven scored a pair of goals while Connor McDougall also scored.

St. Charles wrapped up morning action on Monday with a 4-1 win over Korah. Ryan Liinarnaa, Zach Webkamigad, Blake Purcell and Tyler Scangetti also scored for St. Charles.

Monday evening’s draw saw St. Charles beat Algonquin2-0. Nick McGregor picked up the shutout. Ryan Liinamaa and Blake Purcell scored for St. Charles.

The final round robin game saw Korah beat CASS 3-2. Mitch Oliverio, Erik Simon and Justus Mancuso scored for Korah in the win. Brysin Shaw and Bryce Campbell scored for CASS in the loss.

In the AA NOSSA tournament in Sudbury, the St. Mary’s Knights beat West Ferris 2-1 in the championship game to make it a clean sweep at the NOSSA hockey tournaments for Sault schools.

Liam Rising had both goals for St. Mary’s in the title win. Nick Scott scored for West Ferris.

In the round robin, St. Mary’s beat Manitoulin SS 7-0 (Jake Wright (2)). St. Mary’s also picked up a 3-0 win over West Ferris in round robin play. Liam Rishing, Cody Deschene and Liam Rishing.
